Skeletal Muscle Mass is Associated with HDL Cholesterol Levels and the Ratio of LDL to HDL Cholesterol in Young Men: A Pilot Study

چکیده

Background: It is unclear whether greater skeletal muscle mass beneficial for improving cardiometabolic health in young individuals. Our purpose was to investigate the association between and risk factors males. Methods: Data were collected from thirty-seven males (23.2 ± 0.3 years). Participants categorized based on (skeletal index-percentile score, SMI-PS) assessed by bioelectrical impedance analysis. They divided into two group: standard group (SMG, n = 17, SMI-PS 102.2 1.0%), high (HMG, 20, 120.5 1.8%). Arterial stiffness brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) blood parameters including high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density (LDL-C), total (TC), triglycerides (TG), fasting glucose (FG) hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) assessed. Results: The level of HDL-C HMG significantly higher compared SMG (p < 0.001), whereas ratio LDL-C lower 0.001). However, no changes baPWV, TC, LDL-C, TG, FG, HbA1c found groups. Interestingly, there a positive correlation (r 0.469, p 0.003), negative LDL-C/HDL-C –0.38, 0.02). Conclusions: This study suggests that an increase may have additive benefit lipid components through increased decreased men.

Total cholesterol/HDL cholesterol ratio vs LDL cholesterol/HDL cholesterol ratio as indices of ischemic heart disease risk in men: the Quebec Cardiovascular Study.

BACKGROUND Total cholesterol (TC)/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)/HDL-C ratios are used to predict ischemic heart disease risk. There is, however, no consensus on which of these 2 indices is superior. The objective of the present study was to present evidence that the LDL-C/HDL-C ratio may underestimate ischemic heart disease risk in ...

Ratio of triglycerides to HDL cholesterol is an indicator of LDL particle size in patients with type 2 diabetes and normal HDL cholesterol levels.

OBJECTIVE In patients with type 2 diabetes, a normal HDL cholesterol level does not rule out that LDL particles may be small. Although techniques for analyzing LDL subfractions are not likely to be used in clinical practice, a prediction of LDL size based on a regular lipid profile may be useful for assessment of cardiovascular risk. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Sixty patients with type 2 diab...

The Triglyceride-to-HDL Cholesterol Ratio

OBJECTIVE We evaluated whether the triglyceride-to-HDL cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio is associated with insulin resistance (IR) in a large multiethnic cohort of obese youths. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Obese youths (1,452) had an oral glucose tolerance test and a fasting lipid profile. Insulin sensitivity was estimated using the whole body insulin sensitivity index (WBISI) and homeostasis mod...

In Iran, the hydrogenated vegetable oil have content of frans fatty acids and high per capita consumption.this study was aimed to evaliate the effects of substitution of hydrogenated oil by sunflower liquid oil on plasma levels of LDL,HDL, total cholestero and triglycerids in normal subjects.thirty six healthy inmates participated in this research. they were consuming hydrogenated oil before the...

Elevated triglycerides/HDL-cholesterol ratio associated with insulin resistance.

BACKGROUND Cardiovascular disease is the main cause of death worldwide and insulin resistance (IR) plays an important role for its development. In addition, IR has been associated with hypertension and metabolic syndrome according to the triglyceride/HDL-cholesterol (TGL/HDL) ratio. We undertook this study to determine whether the TGL/HDL ratio is associated with IR in apparently healthy subjec...
